Mountain dwellers at Devil Hole, Rokel and Deep Eye Water have reported to african24 the presence of scores of prison escapees still hiding in the forests around that area and come out at night time begging neigbhours for food, clothes and money for them to go back to their respective natal homes now that they have been miraculously freed from the Pademba Road male and Special Court female Correctional Centers.
A resident at Deep Eye Water who telephoned africa24 with a zero number digits says he has already informed the police about the presence of these prisoners in the forests. He says they are telling fascinating stories concerning their detentions and condemnations. He said some neighbours who are distance away from nearby police stations are providing these guys with food, clothing and money for fear being attacked at right should they fail to comply.
At Firestone along Berry Street, heading toward Fourah Bay College carwash, two escapees who spent the night shivering under the rain in the nearby forest reportedly came out half naked begging for food, clothing and money. A Motor bike rider says he was duped by one escapee who hired his bike from New Road, Model to Thunder Hill, noting that immediately he descended from the bike he ran away that was between 7and 8pm on Tuesday November 28, 2023. He said he was dressed in clean robes and was not easy to detect if he was an escapee.
Meanwhile, Correctional Center personnel say some are voluntarily reporting back to the facilities every day especially those who thought they had no place to run and will be identified by either their neighbors or their complainant.
Police personnel are understood making round trips to the forest areas in the western urban and rural districts in search of these escaped prisoners.
