Bra Parrot has observed of late that the alarming rate of accidents the country especially in the capital city Freetown, cannot be unconnected with reckless and rough driving, especially by commercial drivers.

Recently, Bra Parrot was on its usual familiarization visits to important areas in the city when he came across several accidents cases some of which were fatal.

But to Bra Parrot who cares for others lives in their beautiful kingdom, accident is accident, fatal or not, because life (lives) matters at the end.

Upon enquiry to know the cause or causes of the rampant and frequent accidents within the city and its environs, Bra Parrot was told by traffic police officers that, the principal cause or causes are due to reckless and rough driving including but not limited to wrong overtaking, use of wrong routes and bad or wrong parking.

Of course, Bra Parrot has also observed that, traffic police officers have been so lenient with these useless and uncontrollable drivers who continue to deliberately commit various traffic offences.

It’s no longer a secret that these hopeless drivers most of whom often under the influence of toxic drinks (alcohol), cannabis (jamba), kush and other dangerous drugs do not abide by the rules and regulations that govern the profession.

Their recklessness has led to the untimely death of uncountable innocent souls over the years.

Therefore, in the interest of safeguarding the precious lives of other Sierra Leoneans in future, Bra Parrot is urging the Traffic Division of the Sierra Leone Police Force and the Road Safety Corps at the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority to emulate the good examples (I mean without compromise with defaulting drivers) of their counterparts in other countries around the world.

In the spirit of law abiding and importantly, the protection of valid lives of innocent Sierra Leoneans in future, the wise bird would like to advise our commercial drivers to desist from their usual reckless, useless and rough driving and to avoid using old and worn out parts including smooth tyres which are also causes of avoidable accidents, that they must always ensure their vehicles are in proper working order and to abide by all the traffic related regulations.
