Captain Alpha Mamoud Jalloh, a military officer of No. 15b Water Side road, Wilberforce in Freetown, on Friday 26th May, 2023, testified against 26years old Abdulraham Kamara on a case of theft.
Taking the witness stand, Mr. Jalloh said he knew the accused as his neighbour and at his said above mentioned address were building materials such as boards, metal bars, and full length plywood, adding that due to several observations he observed that his materials were shortened.
He narrated that on the said date of the incident, he came out of his room at around 4 to 5pm in the evening and saw the accused jumping from his store room where the building materials were kept on to the street and ran off. He told the court that for a better confirmation, he called the accused name Alhaji as he used to call him and, he then answered and said he is coming, “I saw him holding the boards on his hands,” he told.
Mr. Jalloh concluded that at around 6 to 7pm he then went to the grand-mother of the accused and told her about the incident, and she confirmed that the accused has just stolen from her also.
He revealed to the court that at one night, he saw the accused at Wilberforce barracks and, the following day he and some youths went in search of him and was found at a ghetto, and later took him to the Congo Cross Police Station and where he made a statement.
The accused cross examined the witness:
“Did you see me at your place?” the witness replied “yes” and that he even called his name.
“Who told you I went to take stone at your place?” Mr Jalloh answered “you did yourself”.
The accused further put it to the witness that he has grudge against him on land issues, in which the matter was brought before Magistrate Mark Ngeba.
The accused is before Magistrate Alpha Rashid Jalloh of Pademba Road Court No. 4 facing a one count indictment of Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
It was alleged that the accused Abdul Rahman Kamara, on Monday the 22nd May, 2023, at No. 15b Water Side road, Wilberforce barracks, stole twenty five(25) full length plywood each valued at forty five Leones ( NLe 45) valued one thousand one hundred and twenty five Leones(NLe1,125), eight iron bars each value eight hundred Leones (NLe800) valued six thousand and four hundred Leones (NLe6,400) and thirty three Leones of timber each valued at fifty Leones (NLe50) value one thousand six hundred and fifty Leones (NLe1,650) all to the total value of nine thousand one hundred and seventy five Leones (NLe9, 175) property of Alpha Mamud Jalloh.
Bail was refused and the matter adjourned to 1st June 2023, for Pw2 to testify.
