As the campaign for food self-sufficiency intensifies in Sierra Leone and according to the monitoring team of this press, heads of local and international organizations in Sierra Leone are doing their best by presently engaging farmers and land owners for the extension of farm sites for the growing of massive food items in the country.
Following a recent visit on the farm sites by Everybody Must Farm (EMF) Organization, Vegetables and Cassava farmers in Fayema, Burma III, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District, the District Agriculture Officer of The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Kenema District, Philip Conteh, on 26th May, 2023, said that the Everybidy Must Farm Organization is timely in the country and that its members deserve massive support to enhance food sufficiency to do decent jobs through agriculture and help eradicate poverty in Sierra Leone.
In his statement to farmers in Fayema community, Burma III, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema district, DAO Conteh disclosed that the President of EMF, Sfano Njawa Sesay, has promised him that his Leadership will be dedicated on the fields and will closely engage farmers in the informal sector to be united for their own good, adding that the promise statement made by the President of EMF proves evident and satisfactory.
Philip Conteh encouraged the farmers in the meeting to make use of the opportunities in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. He added that the next government of the Republic of Sierra Leone will make agriculture first priority.
DAO Philip Conteh called on donor partners to work with organizations like EMF, that are reaching the farmers and working closely with them and that will help change the dynamics in the agriculture sector which needed leaders that have passion for hardworking farmers that are yearning to become rich, wealth and living happily.
