The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister, the Law Officers’ Department, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, and the National Commission for Privatization (NCP), has struck a mutual agreement to boost relations.
The license and concession agreement was made 22nd January 2025.
The deal seek to address repairs and maintenance of the port walls and to regulate bulk and break-bulk cargo operations in Sierra Leone’s waters.
It is also focusing on doing repairs and maintenance of berths 3, 4, 5, and 6.
An extension on the license agreement for bulk and break-bulk cargo operations at the port was also considered in the deliberations by partners.
This represents a critical step toward enhancing port infrastructure and on improving operational efficiency. The agreements are now subject to cabinet approval and parliamentary ratification.
This development underscores the government’s commitment to improving maritime trade, upgrading infrastructure, while ensuring sustainable growth in Sierra Leone’s port sector.
Further updates are to be provided following a cabinet approval and parliamentary ratification on the agreements.
