The attention of the wise bird has been drawn to farrago of criticisms President Bio has been subjected to since his assumption of power in 2018 to date, including but not limited to his signing of countless Executive Orders and his frequent overseas travels.
His critics have described the Executives Orders as a “toothless bulldog” that barks but does not bite and his numerous overseas trips as mere waste of the country’s meager resources.
It could be recalled that when President Bio came to power in 2018 to date like his United States of America counterpart, he has signed a huge number of Executive Orders aimed at bringing sanity to public administration, but alas, that has just been another fruitless endeavour because the negative attitude of civil servants is just getting worse than ever imagined.
It seems to Bra Parrot that those Orders fell on the wayside, undoubtedly rendering them useless. But who cares or dares to ask, of course, only the bravest old and patriotic animal in this kingdom.
The Executive Orders if they were carried out would surely have yielded its intended results such as enforcing punctuality in work places, rejuvenating the monthly cleaning exercise among many others.
But alas, the beautiful Executive Orders never saw the daylight for obvious reasons.
Judging from what the patient and law abiding bird has noticed is that people in this kingdom do not have respect for their authorities, hence do not adhere or listen to them.
This is clearly what the civil servants have demonstrated, while the president has given orders they have blatantly violated them with impunity waiting for the consequences if any.
But one thing is certain, Bra Parrot knows that nothing is going to come out of it, as it’s going to be business as usual. These negative attitudes of citizens in this Republic especially civil servants, is believed to be one of the many factors responsible for downfall of past and present leaders.
It is in both the Bible and the Quran that, a leader must always be respected, because, they say, ‘the voice of God is the voice of man.’ This religious statement in essence indicates that defying the authority of a leader can spell doom for a nation.
As usual, the bird went out to sound the views of people on the number of Executive Orders the President had signed since he came to power if they actually worked.
Some of those he contacted insisted that the president is unable to take decisive action against these defiant civil servants because most of them holding important positions are his Bo School Alma-mata and does not want to hurt them.
Others claimed that like his Bo School fraternity, some of them were party members who were not only part of his campaign team, but importantly spent their hard earned monies during the campaign trail.
The brave bird is not saying some people do not have respect for the President, only that their behavior speaks the other way.
No matter what, President Bio is the President of Sierra Leone and must be accorded all the respect he deserves as a leader, otherwise he will steer the ship in the wrong direction.
And such negative behavior continues with check, it will be extended to any other leader in future.
So, it’s high time citizens of the tiny nation started to give some amount of respect to our leaders if we want to see ourselves thriving.
The wise bird has spoken!
