The old creature nearly laughed his ribs out when he heard some concerned fellow citizens saying that the government wanted to weaken the opposition when he already considered it weak, if not a dead one. “It’s really interesting indeed,” he giggled.
Since the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) came to power almost six (6) years now, the Wise Bird has been getting calls and messages from the general public particularly the main opposition APC party about alleged mistreatment meted out to them.
Up to date, the patient animal has continued to receive such persistent and disturbing calls still complaining about the fragrant violation of their rights as opposition members in contravention of the national Constitution by the sitting government.
The aggrieved members cited the forceful reintroduction of the PR system by the government, the conduction of last mid-term census, the setting up of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) without regulations, the forceful installation of the Speaker among many others as references of the government’s violation of the country’s constitution with impunity.
Bra Parrot who has never jumped into making hasty conclusion in any matter especially those of national concern which has unarguably earned him a reputable household name among his folks, as usual decided to flow to the office of the ruling SLPP to get their views on the allegations levied against them by some members the opposition.
Interestingly and expectedly, all those the bird spoke with described the APC as an unserious opposition, stressing that they should not blame the government for their weakness or possible demise.
They rhetorically expressed that the opposition is already weak and that there is no need for government to continue to weaken it. “That is ironical,” they insisted.
Meanwhile, judging from the way things are unfolding in this Republic and the lackadaisical attitude of the opposition particularly these days, Bra Parrot is not surprised to hear other citizens describing the latter as weak, given the way they appear to be working for individual interest, even though they have incessantly but vaguely argued that their interest is for the entire nation.
