Hawanatu Hawa Koroma on Monday 10th February, 2025 remanded in custody again by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 for allegedly pouring fuel on her husband and set him ablaze which led to his death.
Hawanatu was arraigned before the court on a count charge of murder contrary to section 1 of the Offences Against the Person’s Act of 1816 as repealed and replaced by section (1a) of the Schedule of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act of 2021 Act No.6 of 2022.
The charge sheet indicated that the accused on Friday 22nd November, 2024 back of Leicester Peak junction in Freetown murdered Nabieu Bangura.
In his testimony the fifth prosecution witness Detective Police Constable 13274 Bangura H., attached to the Scene of Crime Office at the Scientific Support Office CID headquarters, Pademba Road in Freetown told the court that he is responsible for visiting crime scenes, witnessing autopsy and taking photographs together with tendering them in court.
The witness said on Monday 25th November, 2024 he witnessed an autopsy examination on the remains of the deceased Nabieu Bangura at the Connaught Hospital mortuary in Freetown after the relatives of the deceased have identified his remains and that Sergeant 10601 Macarthy A. was also present. He said he used his Cammon digital camera to take photographs of postmortem process and that end of the process, he printed the photographs arranged them in a photographic album and kept them in the police custody. The Cammon digital camera was produced and tendered in court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit F and the photographic album marked as exhibit A1-14 he concluded.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused the accused bail and sent her to the male correctional facility in Freetown and matter adjourned to 17th February, 2025.
