The ongoing political campaign in Sierra Leone at a time when the people are suffering is threatened by the increasing cost of basic food items in the country. It is now clear that we have Sierra Leonean citizens that are wealthy and rich enough to support the private sector to grow more food that will supply the local and international food markets affordable to the people at low costs and create more job opportunities for the stranded youths especially the women which they have ignored in the past.
The causes of the loud cry of food insufficiency and food insecurity, poverty and joblessness and the exposed multi-billionaires we hear about has raised a concern to this press.
During an exclusive interview with the President of Everybody Must Farm (EMF) Prof. Sfano Njawa Sesay about the current situation in Sierra Leone, he said that bad and selfish thinking politicians mock development during their political campaign with the display of their wealth and riches to people they should have supported for sustainable development.
The EMF President furthered that it was made public about the policy statement of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio about politicians owning farms to qualify them into the political sector. Adding that, his national research proved that bad politicians ignored the esteemed wise policy statement by the First Gentleman of the Republic of Sierra Leone that aims to bring politicians and their supporters closer together for sustainable peace and development through agriculture.
Prof. Sfano Njawa Sesay furthered that those bad politicians bluffing with riches and wealth stating promises that can hardly be achieved is a mockery to the abandoned youth.
“Sadly Sierra Leoneans suffer from hunger, poverty and joblessness”, Prof. Sfano Njawa Sesay stated. Adding that hunger, poverty and joblessness are threat to the peace process and that the next government of Sierra Leone and it’s development partners should prioritize massive food production, establishment of modern storage, processing and packaging facilities to address the ultimate need of the people to save lives and sustain the peace.
