The Speaker of Parliament, Hon Segepoh Solomon Thomas has ordered all Parliamentarians who have issues with specific mining companies to channel written complaints to him, the Speaker for action.
He made the request on Tuesday 4th March, 2025 in the Well of parliament.
According to Speaker Thomas, most mining companies have issues with either workers or with the people in their operational communities, and such companies must face Parliament scrutiny.
Speaker Thomas has vowed to ensure to take robust actions against such companies.
“Members of Parliament have the right to know the activities of these companies in their communities,” he stressed.
He said all the MPs that have specific problems with companies to write them and bring the issue to his notice for actions.
He stressed that these issues are much important and they should be addressed with maximum seriousness it deserves.
He told the lawmakers they are representatives in their respective districts and constituencies but things are happening in those communities without their notice.
He said MPs are representatives of their people who he said do not have access to funds but have right to know what and involve in every activity in their areas because many a time their constituents blame them when things go wrong.
“Please MPs just note down the names of the companies and the issues you have with them and forward it to me by Friday,” he urged.
