Many shops were closed on Tuesday March 4th in Freetown especially at major streets points.
The Sani Abacha Street, Free Street, which is dominated by shoes sellers and Sackville Street and many more nearby PZ, stopped selling on the morning hours of Tuesday.
Many people were caught surprise by this as shopping doors were bolted which prevented selling yesterday.
Africa 24 was unable to speak to an official at Traders Council Sierra Leone but few businesses men expressed out their dismay.
“The shipping container at the Quay [ Queen Elizabeth ll) has been risen up to Le 250 million. That is too much for us to bear,” he said.
But as the strike happened on Tuesday, few shops, just few ones could be seen opening for business at Short Street and along the Sani Abacha Street.
A shopkeeper was not in support of the strike and he explained just why,” when we last called ours, they never joined us. I can’t be party of this.”
Meanwhile, government is expected to make a statement on the striking action by the business men at Central Business District. The Traders Council are most likely to respond on the given situation.
