As we enter into the dawn of a new year, it is a suitable time to reflect on the transformative leadership within the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), under the guidance of President Julius Maada Bio, who appointed Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio as the Director General. Since taking the helm, Mr. Bio has worked tirelessly to enhance port operations, positioning SLPHA among the best in West Africa.
Mr. Bio’s leadership style emphasizes collaboration, transparency, and innovation, allowing the organization to thrive in a challenging economic landscape. His proactive approach has resulted in significant improvements to the port’s operational systems, which are essential not just for trade and commerce in Sierra Leone but also for bolstering the wider West African economy.
Working closely with the Board Chairman, Hon. Manso Dumbuya, and his Deputy, Judith Boi Kosseh, Mr. Bio has focused on capacity-building initiatives that uplift staff through targeted administrative training. This investment in human resources is crucial, as it equips employees with the necessary skills to adapt to the global economy and meet international standards in port operations.
Furthermore, efforts to increase salaries reflect a commitment to ensuring that workers are adequately compensated, fostering a motivated workforce dedicated to their roles.
As we bid farewell to 2024 and step into 2025, we look towards a year filled with opportunity and potential for the people of Sierra Leone. The advancements made at SLPHA represent hope for economic growth, enhanced international trade relationships, and improved living standards for citizens.
On behalf of the management and staff at SLPHA, we wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. May 2025 bring new opportunities, continued progress, and success for Sierra Leone and its hardworking people. Together, under the inspired leadership of Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio and his dedicated team, let us move forward, embracing the possibilities that lie ahead.
