The most respected statesman (the bird) has been getting disturbing news from the corridors of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party in respect of the reinstatement of the former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana to the APC party.

During his investigations, the bird saw a letter dated 10th September, 2020 which states that on the 8th September 2020, the National Advisory Committee (NAC), the second highest decision making body of the party discussed the request of Chief Sam Sumana to return to the party.

The letter further stated that, the National Advisory Committee (NAC) unanimously without any objection or abstention, voted and accepted to pardon Chief Sam Sumana.

Furthermore, the letter states that, the expulsion of  Chief Sam Sumana was lifted, and that his request to be reinstated as a member of the APC accepted to be endorsed by a National Delegates Conference, “AS PROVIDED FOR IN ARTICLE 8 OF THE DECEMBER 5, 1995 APC CONSTITUTION.”

The letter in question was written, signed by the former Secretary General of the APC party, Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yananeh.

According to information the bird had gathered from some quarters, the current executives of the party are using the 2022 APC Constitution against some members of the party including the former Vice President to disqualify them from taking part in the race, which is not in the best spirit of democracy.

In a very angry mood, one of Chief Sam Sumana’s strongest supporters told Bra Parrot that, any attempt from any quarter to disqualify Chief Sam Sumana from taking part in the party’s leadership race will meet the strongest resistance, insisting that such attempt is tantamount to killing democracy.

“Such attempt will be detrimental not only to the very existence of the Executive but significantly undermines the chances of the party as a whole for future elections,” he added in annoyance.

The anonymous supporter went further to say that, if a level playing field is created as stipulated in the December 5, 1995 Constitution, Chief will give his 100% support to any member who emerges as leader of the party, but if that is not done, they will be left with no alternative but to seek redress in a court of law for the interpretation of both 1995 and the 2022 APC party Constitutions.

The strong man from Chief Sam Sumana’s camp went further to say that, the High Court of Sierra Leone before now, slammed injunction to most of those in the present executive which according him, is a violation of the Court Order.

The bird as usual went out to sound the views of people on the issue, and most of them expressed dismay over the attitude of the Executive.

Some said the Executive should not use new laws to address old issues; referring to what is going on as retrospect.   

Meanwhile, the brave bird will continue to monitor the situation closely and with keen interest.
