The Minister of Information and Civic Education (MoICE), Chernor Bah says President Bio has accepted all the recommendations of the Tribunal Report including the removal of the suspended Auditor General’s Layra Taylor Pearce and her deputy.
Minister Bah made the statement on Tuesday 9th June, 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room, Tower Hill in Freetown during the usual government briefing.
He said having satisfied section 1377(a) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, President Bio has directed the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawallie, to initiate the necessary procedures for the removal of the suspended Auditor General, Layra Taylor Pearce, as pursuant to section 1377 (b) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.
And that the Audit Service Board must institute actions for the removal of the suspended Deputy, Tamba Momoh, of the Audit Service Sierra Leone.
According to him the recommendations should be taken in parliament.
Mr. Bah blasted the National Coordinator of Budget Advocacy Network (BAN), Abu Bakarr Kamara for refusing to attend the usual government briefing.
BAN’s latest public notice holds the view that it could not attend government’s briefing over the insistent of the Tribunal Committee to release public findings into Lara Taylor-Peace and deputy’s probing. BAN said it would continue to engage the government on the release of the report’s findings on the suspension of the two senior Auditor Generals, Madam Lara Pearce and Temba Momoh.
Chernor Bah insisted that he had invited the National Coordinator, Mr. Kamara and gave him a green light to attending the conference, but only showed up 20 minutes in the briefing.
Talking on the report, the Director of Public Prosecution, (DPP) Osman Kanu, said both auditors were suspended 2021 for misconduct and lack of professionalism.
Barrister Kanu said the tribunal was chaired by a former judge Madam Justice Nyao Jones, Justice Ivan Sesay and by a lawyer.
