Of course, there is no denying the fact that First Ladies are very important, given the fact they are help mates to their husbands, but that in essence does not make them presidents, given credence to the maxim: “A butterfly can never be a bird because it has wings to fly.” Therefore, their roles are limited just to First Ladies and nothing more.
But it appears that some First Ladies especially in certain countries in West African are becoming so powerful that they are gradually overtaking the responsibilities of their husbands. This situation has forced the Parrot to follow the activities of some of these First Ladies in the sub-region particularly with regards their activities in public places.
This is because; there is a particular First Lady in one tiny West African country that seems to have overstepped her responsibilities or limitations with least or no regards to her husband.
She often chastises government ministers at will. Bra Parrot cannot believe his ears when he recently heard that this same woman referred to some government ministers and officials as dogs. As if what she does is not enough, she also deeply interferes into government affairs.
The most respected animal is of the view that despite having role to play like stated earlier, but First Ladies the world-over are not part of the governance structure, meaning they should not perform the roles of their husbands as presidents.
Even though there is an old adage which says ‘behind every successful man there is a strong woman’ but that does not warrant the woman to behave as if she is the man.
From all indication, it seems some husbands cannot control their wives by telling them the hard fact that, they are just women or First Ladies and should not overstep their limits to hijack their (men’s roles).
According to the understanding of the bird, every First Lady has her own specific role to play especially one that gears towards protecting and promoting women, girls and children’s rights and to make sure they are united.
For example, the launch of a unique programme “Hands-off our Girls” by a certain overambitious First Lady in one small country, but that does not in essence makes her interfere with her husband’s responsibilities. That behaviour is very much uncalled for to say the least and should not be allowed.
Those who studied government say it is divided into three arms; the Executive, Judiciary and the Legislative and no mention of something like First Lady. This means, all First Ladies must stay away from the main activities of the government.
Any attempt to pose as elected President by any First Lady is not only completely wrong, but even tantamount to impersonation, a crime punishable by law.
As the wise bird always wants to present balance reporting, he flew from country to country especially across Africa to get the views of other people on this important issue.
Their reactions were uniformed. They expressed dismay over the utterances of one particular First Lady in one West African country which in totality they condemned out rightly.
The people told Bra Parrot in clear terms that First Ladies in their own countries have their own specific programmes and very seldom they accompany their husbands on official trips.
After the exhaustive trip, the bird flew back home to get the views of his own country fellowmen.
Interestingly, the people were afraid to call things by their correct and proper names for fear of being arrested and lock-up.
The wise bird did not call any name but like the late Jamaican Reggae icon, Bob Marley once said, “who the cap fit, let them wear it.”
The most respected animal is watching how things are unfolding in his Kingdom.
