By the look of things, it is obvious that those in the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), who are clandestinely working towards succeeding President Julius Maada Bio, are now on the rampage seemingly in the open.
In Parliament, Hon Robin Farley, has been reportedly made popular by his supporters to be the preferred candidate to take over President Julius Maada Bio.
One of his supporters in the house of law, has said, “Hon Robin Faley has worked for tirelessly over the years for his ambition for the Presidency under the great SLPP.”
“Among those I have heard about succeeding President Bio. Robin Faley is he the fittest because his popularity cuts across the country, “one supporter named Mustapha said in Parliament.
Mustapha pointed out that Robin Faley is an indigene of Port Loko and is popular in Western Area and Kono axis.
Faley has earned respect across the board and he is a grassroots politician who shows no boundary, color, regional and not even talking about tribal sentiment, the politician is talked of.
Another supporter who argued about succession in the SLPP said, Faley is very fit for the top-post but his chances to succeed President Julius Maada Bio in 2028 looks absolutely slim, considering the tough race in the greener party.
“Where we have the likes of VP Juldeh Jalloh, David Moinina Senge, Hon Mohamed Sidi Tunis, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Alie Kabba, John Oponjo Benjamin, Kadiru Kaikai and among others, Hon Robin Faley may not withstand the pressure, So let him wait,” an SLPP MP, has said.
Many SLPP MPs are in deep uncertainty about the smooth transition of a flagship position after Bio may have gone.
Remours have it that some sections of the SLPP prefer Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh in the succession trail.
According sources within the SLPP hierarchy, Senge is the most fitted but not popular for the top post, adding that giving him the flagship will be another Dr Samura Kamara failed scenario in the SLPP.
For Hon. Kandeh Yumkella, many say, he’d betrayed his original party SLPP in 2018 after formed his National Grand Coalition (NGC) party at that time.
Yumkella is widely considered by the SLPP as a politician with only a sweetest political voice but lacks huge popularity.
According to one Munda Rogers, 2023 general elections exposed Dr. Kandeh Yumkella to the point that even his home District voted for the APC instead of his NGC, which demonstrates that he has no more a political stronghold in his home place.
The former ECOWAS Speaker, Hon Mohamed Sidi Tunis is another sound and political tycoon that many have eyed for the top post.
SLPP stalwarts and grassroots believe in him and have a great respect with his political base in Pujehun District.
Many SLPP grassroots said Pujehun District is always with the SLPP party and the people in that part of country and that shows he is worthy of emulation when it comes to peoples voting strength for the party.
Hon Tunis has been ECOWAS Speaker, leaving a remarkable work for the world to see.
His footprint had been highly acclaimed by his colleagues and Africa leaders while serving as ECOWAS speaker.
Many fingers have been pointed at Hon. Sidi Tunis to take the SLPP to state house by defeating the opposition again with no strings attached.
Alie Kabba and Kadiru Kaikai have been acclaimed by the people to have worked for the Paopa government for the past years and are also loved by their constituents.
John Oponjo Benjamin is one of the old guards in the SLPP and has been spotted for the highest seat in the land.
He is on record to have diligently served the party.
Other supporters said many big guns have expressed their interests silently.
