The Sierra-Hope Fertility Clinic on Monday 8th April 2024 successfully conceived and deliver the first Invitro Fertilisation (IVF) baby in Sierra Leone.
This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer, Jestina Jalloh Jamboria of the Sierra-Hope Fertility Clinic at John Wobey during a press conference organized by the Hospital Management which marks the first IVF conceived and delivered of the first baby in the country.
According to the CEO, Jamboria, the IVF first successful case started on the 8th of August last year and safely delivered on 8th April 2024.
She said as hospital they undertake series of test for IVF for the interested and that there are steps to transfer the Male sperm to the female eggs.
She pointed out that they also undertake series of IVF treatments and make sure that the eggs of the Female and the spermatogenesis are both fit.
“We can even keep the sperm and the eggs of people interested oversee in our health Facility until they are ready” she said.
She said the hospital have more IVF cases in the coming weeks and will equally deliver them.
The mother of the first IVF baby, Lucida Kamara from Sierra Rutile said she has started her journey years ago without a child.
She said she has travelled to Ghana three times and has done IVF in Ghana several times without success.
‘My first IVF I undertook the pregnancy wasted. The next on there were twins and it wasted. I spent thousands of dollars just to have a child. I have done all I can as a woman to have a child but to no avail. Thankfully the Sierra-Hope Fertility Clinic has finally given me joy” she asserted.
Kamara furthered that this is a moment of celebration in my life. The Sierra-Hope Fertility Clinic is a medical center all should embraced, adding that after she has spent her hard earned money to have a child; her home town has made it possible for her.
‘I can now boast of a bouncing baby girl through IVF” she noted.
Lucida Kamara however urged all Sierra Leoneans to use the Sierra Leone made Sierra-Hope Fertility Clinic and have their children without any much challenges.
“You will spend huge monies to travel to other countries to have IVF. I have been five years without a child. Why can’t you come to Sierra-Hope Fertility Clinic at John Wobey and have ur baby with less cost” she said.
She emphasized that Sierra Leone IVF health facility is better and it will reduce sufferings for those seeking IVF abroad.
The Medical Superintendent of the Sierra-Hope Fercility Clinic, Dr. Komba Kaimondo Soniama said apart from the IVF facility at John Wobey, they also have standard laboratory unit and they are working at cost recovery.
He said the affordability and accommodation is cheaper as compared to those travelling to other countries for IVF.
He said the hospital has a branch at Jui and they are offering hypertensive vaccination, adding that the health facility is a standard place for medical attention.
“We have standard gynecologist and perfect surgical team that are ready to deliver medical expert to Sierra Leoneans.
He urged all Sierra Leoneans not to spend their monies to have medical and have babies in other countries but appealed to all to visit John Wobey and have their babies.
