The Sierra Leone Amputee Men’s Football team have suffered two straight defeats in the ongoing Africa Amputee Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt against Angola.
Angola are two-time champions and they defeated the Ambutee of Sierra Leone by 4-0 while Tanzania also had a comfortable 2-0 win against Sierra Leone.
Soccer pundits have seriously uttered dismay and sadness over the performance of the team.
The 27-man delegation was led by Alie Sesay, Director of Corporate Operations at the National Sports Authority (NSA), who is representing the Minister of Sports and the NSA Executive Director.
Both will join the delegation before Sierra Leone’s Group D opening fixture.
This is the seventh consecutive appearance the Sierra Leone National Amputee Football Team has made in continental football outing for Amputees FC. Sierra Leone’s participation is funded by the government through the Ministry of Sports and the NSA.
In an interview with sports lovers across the country, they said the government is wasting taxpayer’s monies on football, on amputee sport and on another sporting disciple amidst the economic crisis in the country.
“We are tired with the poor performance of our national teams, Leone stars is presently ranked 126 in global football. Government and donor partners should focus on other sectors for national development, sporting associations are traveling with huge delegations on international trips for tournaments and friendly matches they are not winning,” they said.
