The wise bird jumped sky high in jubilation when the news broke out that the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs had announced the resumption of lanterns parade in the city.
After years of suppression by the government for the people not to enjoy their culture, now an official statement together with a long list of 35 lanterns to parade the city of Freetown on Independence night.
According to the list, the lanterns will come from the following places: Wellington, Portee, Kissy Dock-Yard, Cline-Town, Krojimi, Mighty Endeavour, Magazine, Babylonians, Betuls, Super Combo, Bombay Stars, Fire Stone, Ishrine, Texas, Congo Town, Lion Arts, Portuguese Town, Aberdeen Road, Aberdeen, Wilberforce, Tengbeh Town, Dwarzak, New England Ville, Brookfields, Baimbrace, Moa Whaef, Montego Bay, Ascentonians, Vimto, RSLAF First Battalion, King Jimmy, Independence Fourah Bay Road, Sierra Leone Scouts Association and finally Grass field.
The bird was made to understand that, this yearly event is known to be a bright celebration of Sierra Leone culture that will attract a spectrum of people from all walks of life.
The parade of lanterns in the city is the country’s culture and also a display of handcrafted that are marched across the streets of Freetown.
The wise bird went out to sound the views of the people as to how the lantern parade will turn-out to be.
Most of the people the bird spoke with gave some negative reactions that, the lantern parade has no meaning for now because President Bio placed a ban on all cultural activities but he was seen dancing in his home town and also celebrating loudly with his Bo school friends.
So for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to come out with an announcement for the resumption of lantern parade does not make sense, the people said.
The bird will be watching to see what will be the outcome of the lantern parade.
