Bra Parrot loves to read as many books as possible to keep the brave bird abreast with daily events surrounding politics, national development and the likes.

 Few days ago, the brave bird saw a book titled; “The Constitution Of Sierra Leone” and the brave bird became very much interested in the book because of its title.

As the brave bird was reading, it came across a word “SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC”, the brave bird was somehow confused with the word and had to consult a dictionary to get the full meaning of the word.

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s dictionary, the word ‘Sovereignty’ means complete power to govern a country, A State of bringing a country with Freedom to govern itself, an autonomous State, an elected government council in a communist country. All of the above carries the same meaning.

The brave bird started to imagine, if at all Sierra Leone is indeed a SOVEREIGN STATE, by the definitions. The brave bird is still not comfortable with the above definitions, taking into consideration the rate at which Sierra Leone is largely dependent on the outside world for financial assistance.

Many a time, government after government largely depends on foreign assistance to take care of domestic debts. Governments of all kind borrow money(s) in a form of grants or loans to service the country’s economy, how can such a country be a Sovereign State when day-in-day-out they need the International Community at every tick of the clock to keep the country’s economy going?

Many a time, Sierra Leone asked the World Bank, European Union (EU), United Nations (UN) and other agencies, Sierra Leone was never a Sovereign State, when Sierra Leone got a passed mark on MCC no crying over issues it was all well and good to hear, by then Sierra Leone was never a Sovereign State, when Sierra Leone was having a war and the Economic Countries Of West African States (ECOWAS) came to help Sierra Leone, at the time Sierra Leone was never a Sovereign State.

It is only when a sitting government did what they supposed not to have done, by way of manipulating an election, then people start to hear about Sovereignty.

Sierra Leone was never a sovereign State when helps were coming from all angles when things go wrong and they are corrected, Sierra Leone became a sovereign State.
