Very soon, the Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, Her Worship Yvonne Aki Sawyerr and the Chairman for the western area rural district council (WARD-C) Kasho J. Holland Cole will be vacating their hot seats to join the political race ahead of the forthcoming polls slated for June 24th, 2023.
The Mayor Yvonne Aki Sawyerr and the Chairman for WARD-C Kasho J.H Cole have been given a deadline of March 1st, 2023 to relieve themselves off duty in a letter addressed to all Mayors, District Council Chairpersons and all Local Councilors by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon.Tamba Lamina.
The MLGRD, Tamba Lamina in his letter instructed all Mayors, District Council Chairpersons and Local Councillors to vacate their respective selected offices and pass over their offices to the Chief Administrators pursuant to Section 137 of the new Local Government Act No.26 of 2022.
Hon.Tamba Lamina in the letter directed all Chief Administrators to full account of finances and cash of the councils, assets that were under the full purview of the Mayors and Chairpersons on or before 28th February, 2023.
Much ado have been said by the Mayor of Freetown, Madam Yvonne Aki Sawyerr and the Chairman for WARD-C, Kasho J. Holland Cole for fulfilling most of their political promises they made to their supporters and the citizens. While both the Freetown Mayor and Chairman for WARD-C will be vying to re-run for their respective positions there are high pessimisms that duo will not be elected by their party to re-run for their sits. Insiders within the corridors of the APC party have said the duo did not live up to the party’s expectations as that will be the reason they will not be given the party symbols come 24th June,2023 general elections.
Her Worship Yvonne Aki Sawyerr and Kasho J Holland Cole are having so many incomplete projects to their names which they cannot afford to complete during this rush hour as many loyal and faithful supporters of the APC have said they will not vote for the duos that did not open doors for APCians during their time of office.
Some street vendors along the Sani Abacha street have expressed their utmost dismay over their current business environment which they said is very appalling and unhealthy for them to either stand or sit to do business. These traders decried the Mayor for not coming to their aid during the August 10th, 2022 protest which led to the destruction of their market tables by State securities. They highly blamed the Mayor of Freetown for not providing them with a market square therefore leaving them to the control of the SLP who are taking away their wares and never given back to them.
