Critics and some Sierra Leoneans both home and abroad continue to criticize the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) amidst the suffering citizens are going through a day.
The critiques say the APC is currently embroiled in serious leadership battles leaving the masses in darkness with no hope for opposition violence.
Critics further say that the APC battle for whom will be in control of their party is their main focus rather than engaging in robust defence on the current state of affairs of the country.
The dumb and deafening situation of the opposition, as described by an erudite lawyer and human rights activist Basita Michael, has created a lot of problems in the country in which the masses become victims of either violence, economic, political and social challenges.
Many say no one is taking the responsibility to serve as a mount piece for the suffering masses in the country.
Since 2018, other critics say, the opposition members are engaging in cabals to either suit their personal aggrandizement or for their well-designed approach to lead their political party.
Apart from the lackadaisical attitude of the opposition in challenging the government on its ill-practice, they are also accused of aiding and abating some of these ills in the society.
Very rough development has happened in recent times but no one from the opposition side is standing tall for the welfare of the people.
Just recently, the country has witnessed so many human rights violations ranging from the hike of food and none food items as well as the current tollgate price bloated saga but the opposition voice has never been heard on this development.
The resignation of the Speaker and the energy Minister would have been discussed and also to talk on the effect of this sad development why the resignation.
And why during the day the Minister resigned but on that very day government paid for the electricity.
Many say if the opposition is effective all these issues should have been put on the table for public debate and the opposition should be the Voice of the Voiceless in this direction.
In the area of transportation, government has debarred commercial vehicles from plying the route as the Waka Fine buses had been granted access to the main road-corridors.
Passengers have described such actions as very unhealthy for them but the opposition party has done nothing to address and defend the commercial vehicles and drivers and the General Public.
When the issue of the tollgate arose, it was only Native Consortium’s activist, Edmond Abu who opposed the idea then, but no voice from the main opposition was heard.
Look now, the prices on the tollgate will take effect on 15th May 2024, paammm!
“It seems as if the center of the opposition is no longer hold. It seems as if the opposition is now an alm chair,” one of the traders, has uttered a statement.
There are all problems in government apparatus but the opposition is not there to raise an alarm on such issues.
Citizens have disappointedly pointed out that they have started losing confidence in the APC party because the seemingly disunity among the opposition party has further created the continuous food needs and human rights challenges faced by Sierra Leoneans.
Others sources have disclosed that APC’s chances on taking up governance in 2028 is still standing on the balance as none of their guys works to take on President Bio’s government ills.
Many people have said if such a thing continues the citizens will suffer the brunt of the current dispensation in the country.
