A good number of Sierra Leoneans have observed the manner in which our community lands are being leased or sold to foreign farming investors.
It is something that, if not put to check now, a time will come when locals will not have farmlands again to grow crops, build houses or lest for the government to build community schools or hospitals, etc.
The craze for agro-land farming acquisition whether it is on sold basis or on a lease condition is becoming so common in the north and south of Sierra Leone.
There are many private Chinese companies, French and other foreigners from other countries occupying vast areas of lands in rural parts of Sierra Leone doing agriculture, or farming.
No one knows if those community lands in specifically Port Loko District, Pujehun and Tonkolili in Yele Town are sold to foreign investors who produce large quantities of palm oil.
The agreements signed between the government of Sierra Leone and the villagers and the foreign investors are never open to the public or the media.
Africa 24 press has decided to take up this issue because it has observed that it is much-talked about these days by most Sierra Leoneans especially those coming from those parts of the country where foreign investors in agriculture and farming are having their large farms occupying community lands.
It is sad that instead of government promoting community farming, it is leasing it to foreign farmers.
