As race still puzzling, Sierra Leone’s national team, the Leone Stars, are currently battling through the challenging qualifying stages for the 2026 tournament, competing in Group A alongside Egypt, Guinea-Bissau, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, and Djibouti.
In November 2023, the Leone Stars opened their campaign with a goalless draw against Ethiopia, followed by a 2-0 defeat to Egypt.
These upcoming matches are critical for Sierra Leone’s hopes of progressing towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The nation holds its breath as the team prepares for these decisive encounters, with fans across the country eagerly awaiting the outcome of their qualification journey.
Nevertheless, June 2024 saw recovery with a 2-1 victory over Djibouti and a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso. Momentum continued into March 2025, with a notable 3-1 win over Guinea-Bissau, though they subsequently fell 1-0 to a strong Egyptian side. These forthcoming games are grave for Sierra Leone’s hopes of progressing towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup with little experience of players.
