The Leader of the opposition, Hon Abdul Kargbo, has called on the newly appointed Chief Immigration Officer to protect Sierra Leone’s National Identity, which is the national passport.
The opposition leader made the submissions when he delivered his debate on the approval of the presidential appointees in the Chamber of Parliament.
The MP said a lot of foreign criminals are holding the country’s passports thereby degrading the country’s image abroad.
He emphasized that in the past few months, Sierra Leone has faced vilification for people purported to be Sierra Leoneans, as they are carrying the country’s passport.
He cites the issue of Guinea where our diplomatic vehicle was recently caught with drugs.
Hon. Kargbo urged the government to investigate the recalled Ambassador in a bid to set a precedent.
“Let us try to reclaim our image. Ambassadors appointed in other countries to serve as a brighter example,” he stated.
Speaking on electricity supply, Hon Kargbo also emphasized the importance for Sierra Leoneans to vet people carrying Passports.
The MP further buttressed the need to put a stop to dishing out of the country’s passports.
Speaking on the Yenga issue, where the Guinean soldiers encroached on the Sierra Leone territory he urged the newly appointed Ambassador to work diplomatically and try to reclaim the land.
He also collectively urged all appointees to work in the best interest of the country and its people.
