Twenty-three-years-old Alhaji Sawaneh, a fisher man is standing trial before Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens at the Criminal session at the Sexual Offences Court on No.7 Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.
On a count, he is charged for Sexual penetration offence contrary to section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012 Act No.12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by Section 4 (a) (ii) of the Sexual offences Ammendment Act 2019; Act No.8 of 2019
According to the particulars of offence on the 19th July 2023 in Freetown.
The suspect engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a child below 18.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, the accused pleaded guilty. He was not legally represented in court. He pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy on his behalf.
Justice Stevens said it an act of wickedness to penetrate a four year old child.
The judge say the victim should have been the one to be nurtured and be given advice in society as a role model.
He considered the suspect as a young person and so he adviced him to go and learn some of the skills they have in the correctional facility and after serving his sentence when he will have come out he should not have anything to do with the victim.
The judge sentenced him to ten years imprisonment to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
