Samuel Benjamin Moiba and Alfred Karim Koroma are both sailors and have made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown.
They stood on two count charges for conspiracy contrary to Law and Larceny which is contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offense the accused and other persons unknown on Sunday 9th February 2025 at Sir Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen, Western Area in Freetown, both conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony crime as larceny.
For count two, on the same date and place, the accused persons stole one black colour suit case, one grey colour Dell Computer laptop, black colour A23 Samsung mobile phone, one set hoscope and other assorted items equivalent to the total sum of one hundred and twenty four thousand eight hundred Leones (Nle 124,800) as property of Doctor Sherif Emil whilst in custody of the management of Seacoach Express.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
Inspector Kadie M. Taylor led as prosecution witness number one and Micah Tanimu, the General Manager at Sea Coach on the same time, said both accused are sailors and he recalled on the 9th February, 2025 of something that transferred between himself and the accused. And on the above date he received a call from the coordinator of Mercy Ship at around 10:00 PM. The same coordinator gave him information in respect of a missing luggage, thereafter he told the coordinator to exercise patience and that he’d get back to him.
The witness said he went to the office and switched the CCTV camera on and he saw the first accused from the terminal by the car park.
And when the first accused got to the car park with the three bags with other bags he put the alleged missing bag aside.
And upon that he called the attention of the first accused in respect of the luggage.
He denied and took the first accused to the CCTV room and played the CCTV for him. There he watched the CCTV footage and saw himself then he confirmed to him that he was the one that he had asked him for the missing bag.
He then identified the second accused that he knew about the missing bag.
And when he called the second accused he did not talk with him but he called the police straight away and the police officer handed over the accused to them.
The CCTV footage was reduced into a memory stick that contains the CCTV footage which was produced and tendered to form part of the court records marked as exhibit A.
He later made statement to the police.
The accused was represented by S. Smart Esq, and hr cross-examined the witness and renewed his previous bail applications on behalf of the accused.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Kekura refused bail based on the seriousness of the offences charged and sent both accused to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to the 11th April 2025.
