There is a famous adage which says, “One cannot give what he doesn’t have.” That maxim just fits the present situation our small kingdom is experiencing especially with the incessant blackout the inhabitants are experiencing particularly in the capital city.
What the wise bird has observed over the period is that either our ministers of Energy previous or present lack the necessary energy experience; the energy (physical capability) or because the country is not producing energy that is why our republic, even though blessed with numerous natural resources is not able to produce enough to supply electricity to our homes.
This situation is not only shameful and disgraceful but pathetic because in the 21st century our energy sector is still overwhelmed by so many challenges.
Bra Parrot cannot believe that a small nation like this with a population size of less than that of a village not to talk of the smallest state in Nigeria that we cannot get reliable power supply in our homes. It saddens the bird any time he sees press release regarding low shedding of electricity supply.
Just recently he saw a time-table from the Ministry of Energy for the distribution of light in the capital.
That even further angered the already frustrated bird, because the so-called time-table for the distribution of power in the city has never worked as expected.
Certain areas in the city sometimes go without light for weeks if not months even though customers are using pre-paid meter system. People are paying for a service that they are not getting or enjoying to their satisfaction. Every single day, the situation keeps deteriorating as sometimes you hear about fatal incidents that will lead to either loss of life or property as a result of bad light. This ugly development is becoming not only unbearable but unacceptable.
The bird has noticed that the government is not consistent, better still not serious to address the chronic light situation especially in the city, because, somebody from the energy sector will say one thing today and the government will say different thing tomorrow. For instance, the General Manager of EDSA will say something now and before the end of the day, the Energy Coordinator at State House will come out with a different statement. What a shame!
In that light, it appears that the energy sector has no central command to tell the people exactly what the problems are or if they have any serious plan to address them.
Before this time, the bird has been trumpeting the struggling light situation in the city but everything still remains the same with every tick of the clock.
As the bird always want to get a balance story, he again went around town to have the opinion of the people on this burning issue and those he met expressed similar views just as his, that it appears the sector has no central command.
Others even said that, the Ministers of energy don’t have enough energy to produce energy. Indeed one will not give what he/she doesn’t have. The energy sector and by extension the government have ran out of ideas how to tackle the light problem in the city.
The bird is still confused if this problem will ever be addressed.
However, the bird will continue to follow the situation closely and with keen interest because the problem is affecting all of us.
