One of the most controversial journalists in Sierra Leone, Alfred Joshua Rogers’ life has been in constant death threat for doing his work as journalist.

Following the June 24, 2023 controversial elections, Rogers published an article drawing the views and opinion of the people regarding the conduct of the elections.

The article was reportedly published by the All People’s Congress mouthpiece newspaper, “We Yone Newspaper”.

According to reports, Rogers received several death threats from all quarters especially from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government led by incumbent President Julius Maada Bio.

Some ruling party members perceived the article as a threat to government existence.

Few days, after the elections when the article was published a group of well-armed individuals went to Journalist Rogers house threatening to kill him.

Apart from the threat against Rogers, several journalists were trapped at a press conference at the APC Secretariat prior to the announcement of the elections.

Teargas and live bullets were fired at journalists and some APC supporters, a mid-wife was reportedly killed inside the APC headquarters during that incident.

The elections were also described by both local and international observations missions as fraudulent and have statistical inconsistency during the tabulation process.

Journalist Rogers article also attracted the international community as one of the best; which speaks truth to power.

It is certain that the current administration hate critical voices and many journalists have been arrested and detained for doing their work.

Many media practitioners continue to face death threat from government circle.

Because of the constant death threat against Journalist Alfred Joshua Rogers, he reportedly escaped out of the country to seeking refuge.

Africa24 can authoritatively disclosed that Rogers’ life and most others perceived critics of the State capturing by incumbent President Bio are in danger of extinction.

The judiciary and other state actors who are supposed to dispense fair justice are opposed to dissenting voice. Especially those who had been critiquing President Bio; for his poor human rights record and the untold hardship that has led to so many confrontations and victims like Rogers are been hunted by the State.
