Osman Chigi, who’s unemployed, has made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road court No.2 in Freetown.
He stood on a count of house breaking contrary to the laws of the state.
According to the particulars of offence on Sunday 18th February 2014 at Juba Hill in Freetown with intent steal the accused broke and entered the dwelling house of one Riasatalie Siyan and stole therein the sum of one thousand nine hundred united States dollars ($1,900) with ipad, one plus mobile phone, one memory stick and other assorted items equivalent to the total sum of eighty thousand seven hundred and fifty Leones (80,750) property of Riasatalie Siyan.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, no plea taken.
Sergeant 9155 Dwight Macarthy was PW3. Inspector Sylvanus Sandi who lives at George Brook Dwarzak in Freetown and is attached to the Criminal Investigation Department at Lumley police station.
He said he recognized the accused person in the dock and he also knew the complainant in the matter.
He recalled on the 19th February 2024 of a case of on house breaking. He went to Juba Hill to visit the crime scene and he observed the compound was fence and didn’t see any breakage.
On the 20th February 2024 he went again to the same place and obtained statement from one witness.
On the 26th he obtained statements from one Wilfred Blakie and on the 14th April 2024 himself together with DPC 16998 Kargbo.
On the 16th April 2024, he obtained charge statement from the accused person in krio language which was recorded in English language.
And at the conclusion of the statement it was read over and explained to the accused person and the charge statement was produced and tendered in court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit B1-2. The witness was cross examined by the accused person.
Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown matter adjourned to the 1st August 2024.
Larceny from person 20yrs sentenced to 18 months.
