On 27th November 2024, Parliament concluded 2024 National Budget debate and the need for a Kush rehad, a deadly substance abuse in the country, is raised by an MP.
Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, during the debate, kush issue as highlighted detrimental to the progress of the nation.
The Chief Whip noted that at one point in time they visited the Drug Law Enforcement Agency but to their dismay, it hadn’t even a bicycle for workers to do their work at ease.
He maintained that even the welfare of the employees has nothing good to write home about.
Some, he said, have cause to voluntarily abandon the institution.
The MP said resources are not enough to carry out some daunting tasks while payment of salaries come in peanuts.
“While the country is battling with the drug abuse, citizens are expecting huge sum of money to be allocated in the sector.”
But that, he said, seemed to be happening.
Broaden his understanding on issues affecting the state, the MP picked out Police Force, Water Services Sector of having several challenges affecting its operations.
“By now, the country should boast of having 100 bedroom hospitals in strategic places especially in every chiefdom headquarters,” he said.
