The National Communications Authority (NatCA) has slammed a fine of One Million Dollar to Orange mobile company in Sierra Leone.
Sources at NatCA state that the fine came about following numerous concerns being raised by the public relating to the persistently poor quality service network to subscribers.
Despite numerous engagements with Orange Sierra Leone and assurances of services to be improved, and with several missed deadlines, one being a deadline of 15th December 2024 indicated by ORANGE SL, NatCA noted that there still remains a significant gap in meeting satisfactory service standards across the country to phone users.
As the ICT regulator, NatCA has invoked relevant provisions of its Act to penalize Orange Sierra Leone, while at the same time has given directives to Orange Sierra Leone to implement the necessary network enhancements before the end of February 2025.
And that failure to comply, NatCA has warned, it will result in further penalties for the mobile network firm.
NatCA has further urged Orange Sierra Leone to take immediate and effective actions to be able to rectify the situation at once.
