It could be recalled that, in 2022, there was a riot in the capital, Freetown where a number of people were killed including police officers.
Not too long after the riot, all the tables at Abacha Street were removed by some unknown persons but fingers were pointing at some supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party(SLPP) as ringleaders.
According to what the Wise Bird gathered, traders at Abacha Street were passive to be supporters of the Main Opposition APC, and it was alleged that, they were behind the riot.
However, the Mayor of Freetown was contacted at the time; and she reportedly said she has no knowledge of the removals of the tables.
In a week later, the Wise Bird saw workers erecting railings at Abacha Street by way of preventing traders not to do trading along the Abacha Street.
When the news broke out that government will be coming with 50 buses to ease the sufferings of the people, in that light, the railings were removed at Abacha Street, leaving the gutters wide open.
The Wise Bird will safely say that, the first erection of railings involved millions of Leones; the removal may have cost government some millions of Leones and the re-erection of the railings may have also cost government millions of Leones.
The Wise Bird will comfortably say that all the three work done have cost billions of Leones, and in total, it accounts for a mere waste of public funds.
When the SLPP was in opposition, they were talking about reckless and wasteful spending of public funds.
In their time, ironically, the first, second and third work being done at Abacha Street has been a mere waste of tax payers money.
