At least ten people have been injured at Lower Casada farm Gloucester community.
It happened in the early hours of Thursday, 23th October, 2024 last week in Freetown due to a heavy rainfall which caused the collapse of an unfinished building fence near a close neighboring on Smith Drive community.
It left seven people in coma while ten were seriously injured.
The injured victims were rescued by community youth and relatives at Gloucester after being swept away by heavy floodwaters.
Efforts are still underway by local residents to recover the bodies.
The ten injured individuals were identified as Shaku Sesay, Marie Kamara and Marie S. Sesay eight.
They were found near a gutter hopelessly.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout Gloucester Community, with residents of Smith Drive, Tree planting, and other areas expressing deep sorrow over the loss of others’ properties worth millions of Leones.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of certain areas during heavy rains.
The community is now coming together to support those affected by this disaster.
In an interview with Barrister B. Katta Esq, a humanitarian Lawyer, also a resident of the community, has told this medium that the owner of the fence and property in question was unable to make ke commitment and the needful to have protected the affected families.
The government and the national disaster agency should warn in order to avoid similar sad situations in the future.
Marie S. Sesay, a survivor and pupil of St. Joseph Convent Secondary School in Freetown, has said her family is homeless and had been displaced due to the tragedy.
The 15-years-old confirmed that their plights are critically in doom.
“I am a SSS 3 pupil, my books and properties are serious damaged, and our first term exams will kick-off next week. We are calling on donor partners to support my family and other victims,” she said.
According to Shaku Sesay, the father of the Sesay family, he affirmed that the tragedy is unfortunate as it is miserable.
The owner of the building is yet to respond to questions despite the countless efforts by relatives and the community youth to get to talk to him.
“We have made all reasonable efforts to reach the national disaster agency but to no avail, my family and others are still in big pain,” he said.
