The newly appointed deputy Energy Minister II in the Bio administration, Dr Abdul Rahim Jalloh has informed Members of the Parliamentary appointment Committee that eight transformers had been vandalized in Kabala town.
He said the electricity theft is one area that has disrupted the electricity generation in the country.
Dr Jalloh however urged all Sierra Leoneans to be “watch-dogs of all electricity installation in their various communities.”
Dr Jalloh made the submissions when answering questions during the vetting at the Committee Room One in Parliament.
“In Kabala I told my people that any community that destroy any electricity transformers that community will remain without electricity,” he said.
Dr Jalloh said people should take the responsibility to safeguard electricity items in their various communities, stating that if they fail to protect them, they will not receive any electricity.
Making his submissions during the vetting process, the MP from Koinadugu District who doubles as the deputy opposition leader in parliament, Hon Daniel Koroma highlighted the serious problems evident in the electricity sector.
He asked the newly appointed deputy minister on how he intends to resolve that differently.
“How can you ensure that the electricity theft is curtailed in the country,” he asked.
The MP urged the deputy minister if approved to connect the CLSG project to Kabala so that the district will enjoy a 24-hour electricity supply.
The Sierra Leone People’s party (SLPP) MP from Kono, Hon Emerson Lamina thanked Dr Jalloh for his selfless effort in pushing the development of Sierra Leone.
Hon Lamina said Kono District is currently enjoying 24 hours electricity in Koidu City which, he said, has broaden the scope for more developments in the district.
He urged the minister to work in team’s spirit and to light up other remote communities.
