In a bid to help beef up security in Kambia, the Local Unit Commander Chief Superintendent Abu Bakarr Magona just after the August 10th, 2023 national security breach, erected a make-shift police post along the main Kambia Lorry Park which has helped immensely to boost security situation in Kambia.

The security personnel deployed at the tent have over the time nabbed many notorious criminals who have been making life difficult for passengers going to Guinea.

In a snap interview with Sergeant 1714 Melron Oku Rahman Wilson, he told this reporter that he is in charge of the post, adding that it was no mistake for the LUC to erect the tent, considering the geographical proximity from the main police station and Kambia town. The area has been a hub for criminals overtime, making life very difficult for travellers coming to do business in Kambia especially on market days and those travelling out of Kambia. “Let’s not forget that Kambia has a direct link to Guinea and it a business district therefore, criminals will want to take chances to crossover here to carry out their diabolic activities,” Sergeant Wilson stated.

He proudly said that since that tent has been erected, crime rate has been reduced drastically, given that most of the criminals who have been disturbing the peace of people of Kambia have been caught, charged and prosecuted in court.

Asked about how police carry out their operations to nab these criminals, Sergeant Wilson said the present policing is a modernized one because they operates on community policing strategy which he said is the new is the policing practice all over the world. “Definitely, we cannot work in isolation. We need the public,” the officer said, adding that the success of their operations since the post was opened is on high gear and the public have contributed tremendously.

Dilating further, Sgt. Wilson said they are also handling cases at the post which are not felonious, some, he added, they use informal way to resolve them provided the complainant party and the accused come together. He stressed that the police have been very much successful overtime.

confirmed to this reporter that they actually appreciate the police for coming to their midst, noting that before now, they were frequently disturbed at the junction. He promised that they will continue to support the police as long as it is for the common good of security in Kambia.
