The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Sierra Leone has over the weekend certified 15 Microbiologists and Laboratory Scientists selected from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Central Veterinary Laboratory in Makeni, Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLRI), Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), and the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Sierra Leone after a 5 days intensive training course on Microbial Resistance Susceptibility in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone.
The 15 participants, mostly microbiologists/Laboratory scientists, were trained in performing Antimicrobial Susceptibility Tests and interpretation of results to generate quality data for monitoring AMR trends.
The training is part of lined activities under the West Africa Antimicrobial Resistance One Health Grant (WA AMROH) a UK development assistance delivered through the Fleming Fund to support developing countries tackle the burden of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) across humans, animals, plant health and the environment, with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
The training was held at the Wusum Hotel, with practical sessions and examinations conducted at the Central Veterinary Laboratory at Teko, in Makeni.
