Hon. Ibrahim Barrie has called for urgent action for rehabilitation centers for kush and drug victims.
On 31st October 2024, as Parliament resumed for the second session of Sierra Leone’s 6th Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Barrie took a strong stance under Standing Order 23, drawing the House’s attention to the critical need for rehabilitation centers for victims of “Kush” and other dangerous drugs.
With addiction rates on the rise, many young lives are being shattered, with families left in despair, and communities struggling with the devastating impact of drug abuse in the country.
Hon. Barrie stressed that the government could no longer ignore this crisis.
He said immediate action is needed to establish rehabilitation centers across all districts, and by providing essential support for recovery and reintegration support.
This crisis has not only overwhelmed health systems but also social stability, security, and the potentials of Sierra Leone’s youth.
Hon. Barrie urged Parliament to prioritize resources and support for these rehabilitation initiatives, while reminding all that young people deserve.
He said young people should be a chance to rebuild their lives, and that communities too deserve safety and peace especially when Kush idlers are rehabilitated (or lives being reformed for good).
