The Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament, Chernor Abass Bundu, promises, to be abandoning his parliamentary work until the right thing was done to the recent corruption allegation in Parliament.
According to Bundu, the administrative head of Parliament, Umar Paran Tarawally, has put the House into public ridicule which, and that, he said, the behaviour of Paran is deceitful.
The Speaker was absent during the first sitting after the recess and the reason for such conspicuous absent by him was initially in doubt.
Information from different quarters has it that, the erudite speaker will not attend any Parliamentary duties until the needful is done and until ACC completes is work to catch the thieves in Parliament.
Others said, the Speaker will now be working at his home until the current stressful predicament is addressed in the House of Representatives.
In one of his reactions to mounting allegations of sexual harassment by him, Speaker Bundu said, a public relations attack against him just meant to divert attention from the alleged employment scandal rocking Parliament.
He said the Justice TV Online commentary was a revenge for the exposing of some gross administrative malfeasance taking place in the House of Represenatives.
He said having listened to the commentary, one is left with no doubt that the content was meant to divert attention from the prevailing alleged employment scandal rocking parliament and, that the invisible hands behind this move are bent on subjecting his person, Mr Speaker, to public ridicule.
He revealed that at the heart of these claims is an administrative and internal political witch-hunt against him, the speaker, who has been seen to be defiant in the face of serious abuse of power, enforcement of the rule of law and addressing conflict of interest from within the Parliamentary Service and even beyond.
Mr Speaker, many have said, is undeterred and unshaken by detractors, he’s a man of a reputable character and he holds dearly to uphold the principles of rule of law being that he is regarded as an exemplary character of very high moral integrity.
“You cannot use the argument of morality to undercut the law when evidence abounds to say that in legal terms the abuse of office, conflict of interest, embezzlement and corruption are rupturing the administration of Parliament.”
This issue can’t be forced to be swept under the radar in an attempt to scapegoat the speaker, the speaker said.
“In the end, a good man is hard to be taken down.”
“Mr Speaker’s hands are clean as a whistle and he is always willing to subject himself under the law.”
“If the claims are true, then we await the actual testimonies of the victims.”
He said the good thing is that unlike a certain Clergy whose name has been soiled while deceased, he is hailed and hearty to reply to the grave accusations against him irrespective of how demeaning they may be.
And he is ever ready to put the laws to a test, he said in a statement.
