The Director of Media and Communication for the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone Raymond A.N George has via telephone interview disclosed to this medium that Electoral Commission spent the whopping amount of one million, four hundred and thirty three thousand United States dollars ($1,433,000) for the printing of voters registration cards.
The Director of Media and Communication stated that the voters registration cards are printed in Greece by a company called INFORM which he said have their local partner in country called CONSTRAKT.
He said that ECSL decided to post-pone the distribution of voters IDs from the initial announced date of March 16 to April 7 as a result of the strike action by air traffic controllers in France, adding that they are putting measures in place to ensure that the consignment arrive as quickly as possible towards the post-pone date.
Raymond A.N George disclosed that there are three million three hundred and seventy four thousand two hundred and sixty eight (3,374,268) registered voters in the register of voters and they are expecting the same amount of ID cards and every voter is entitle to just one card, adding that there are 3,630 distribution centers in all 16 electoral districts.
In the case of faceless ID cards, he assured the public that ECSL has developed a Mobile App and have trained staff that will be having an iPad at the various distribution centers to take instant photo of registrants with faceless identity cards and same way so issue an attestation to the affected voters which they will use to identify themselves in the ECSL voters register to be able to cast their votes on polling day.
The ECSL Director of Media assured the public that all those whose names are captured in the voter register of ECSL are registered registrants and are entitle to vote on polling day.
He said that ECSL does not have any plan to post-pone the date for election and they are praying that nothing happens that will lead to the change of the election date.
