“Yes, I can confirm that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent an invitation to the Accountant and District Medical Officer (DMO) of the District Health Management Team (DHMT) of the Western Rural District,” says ACC’s Abu Bakar Turay.
The invitation is in connection to the mosquito treated bed nets that have been distributed to the people of Sierra Leone, says the ACC.
The deputy director of Public Education and Outreach at ACC,
Abu Bakar Turay, told this medium over the weekend.
Mr. Turay said the Commission was looking at the distribution and payments that were made by DHM.
It sought to find out how those payments were made and how the mosquito treated bed nets were distributed to the people in the Western Rural District.
He pointed out that the Commission was also investigating corruption related issues that allegedly took place during the distribution and payment exercise of these bed nets in the Western Rural District.
“The principal person the Commission is investigating first is the Accountant of the DHMT of the Western Rural District. By virtue of her position we also extended an invitation to the DMO,” Turay emphasized.
The Ministry of Health and its partners distributed five million four hundred thousand (5.4M) bed nets to the people of Sierra Leone nationwide.
The government of Sierra Leone had earlier recruited people to register beneficiaries of these bed nets at various homes. The registrar also issued coupons to the people after the registration and which will qualify them to receive the bed nets at the various centres being identified by the ministry.
The recruited people had raised serious concerns about the exact amount paid to them after the exercise which prompted the intervention of the country’s anti-graft agency.
