There are times Bra Parrot wonders why government creates certain institutions because some of them like he used to say are just mere dead woods that do not worth their salt.
Guess what, the wise bird saw recently during his usual roving around the capital Freetown. What he saw was absolutely nothing to write home about.
The Parrot saw a lot of bill boards and flyers of aspirants of political parties all over the place as if the Electoral Commission for this little kingdom has formally declared elections campaigns started.
But what angered the patriotic bird is that the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) charged with the responsibility to regulate the activities of all registered political parties is actually doing nothing about it even though it’s aware of this ugly development in the city.
But again, the bird is not saying all the political parties are involved in this latest negative development.
Candidly, he noticed that, only the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress APC party aspirants are presently involved in this unfortunate incident, without due respect to the commission’s established laws.
The wise bird is not a lawyer but, he knows that, laws must be respected by all.
So in situation like this, it is only the PPRC that has the mandate to give clearance to political parties to put up banners or paste flyers and closely monitors their campaigns.
But what beat the imagination of the bird is that, all those campaigning now are all well-educated persons who are au fait with the laws of the land.
But to be honest, Bra Parrot won’t blame them because the organ responsible to control the activities of political parties irrespective of their members being educated or not, are sitting idly by watching with blind eyes.
What again angers the bird is that, the APC executive is fully aware that some of its members are carrying out these wrongdoings but have deliberately decided to keep seal lips and turn blind eyes to it.
Say what you may about President Maada Bio, whether he is this or that, but Bra Parrot holds him to high esteem for one simple reason, that he was very quick to nip in the bud what he believed was rubbish when some of members started similar thing during their just concluded lower level elections.
He told them to their faces that, any aspirant caught campaigning will face the full force of the law. Bravo Mr. President!
One would have thought that, the executive of the main opposition APC Party should have done the same thing to keep the peace in the party, as many observers believe the party is deeply divided.
Meanwhile, the bird sounded the views of senior members of the APC party and had this to say: “This shows the weakness of the APC executive; they are merely barking but will never bite.”
The bird is watching to see how things are unfolding in this Kingdom. Shame on those who are presently campaigning ahead of the stipulated time!
