The Human Resources Management Office (HRMO) in collaboration with stakeholders on Wednesday October 18th 2023 held a meeting at its office at George Street to discuss the new draft on the validation of the Civil Service Code and discuss its new regulations and goals for improved service delivery.
The new regulations among others, is to ensure that all salaries paid to civil servants will be decided by the HRMO and the Ministry of Finance and not the government. That the pension age for civil servants must now be moved from 60 to 65 years and the civil service sector should be transformed into an independent monitoring office to ensure compliance in the civil servant sector.
Mr. Albert Coker, who retired at 60 years as Director welcomed the new regulations. He said the civil service in Sierra Leone has been operational since independence and a lot of institutional changes have been made pending on the challenges of the times. He said there is the Public Service Commission (PSC) which was empowered with the same responsibilities. HRMO is executing today, then the Establishment Secretary’s office and now HRMO. He said until the salary scale is adjusted far from government intervention, discord at work between and among civil servants will continue unabated.
