Orange Money, the financial services provider of Orange mobile network has partnered with BnB Cash App in launching their new product called Oversea Money transfer on Wednesday 8th February, 2023 at the BnB headquarters on Murray town, Freetown.
Speaking at the launch, the Country Head of BnB CashApp Mamadou Billy Kolode said Orange money and BnB are unveiling something that has never happened through the supervision and regulation of the Bank of Sierra Leone.
Mamadou Billy Kolode said BnB is a remittance company that aim to bring remittance to the door steps of whether in the urban or rural areas.
He continued that sending and receiving money was a challenge few years ago and BnB was the first to deploy technology that will empower customers to send and receive money directly.
Mamadou Billy Kolode noted that the launch will help empowering more Orange money customers, adding that the launch is just the beginning of their journey.
However, he stated the oversea money transaction is currently available for countries within the African continent and has not yet reach USA and Europe.
The representative for the CEO of Orange Money, Madam Abibatu Baxter said Orange Money has done it bit in terms of financial inclusion.
The Head of strategy, marketing and partnership, Abibatu Baxter said the launch of the oversea money transfer will allow people to send money with ease and convenient, adding that their main aim is to see Sierra Leone go cashless.
She furthered that the launch of the oversea money transfer will allow people in remote areas to receive and send money easily. “You can sit at home conveniently with phone on hands send money overseas.”
The representative of the Bank of Sierra Leone expressed sincere gratitude to Orange Money and BnB. He said the launch of the oversea transfer has made transaction seamless because people can now sit at the comfort of their homes and offices and send and receive money everywhere excluding USA and Europe.
He assured the public that Orange Money and BnB are in full compliance with strict supervision from the Central Bank, adding that the launch is in line with the vision of the Central Bank.
He reiterated that the new product launched by Orange Money and BnB is safe for customers to use and it is under the guidance of the regulators.
Currently, he disclosed that the product has been put into test in the sand box which is a live testing environment for financial product.
The CEO of BnB Liberia, David Ojo said he is happy that BnB together with Orange Money is making history to launch the oversea transfer.
David Ojo stated that BnB’s mission is to lead in financial innovation.
The representative of the Central Bank of Liberia, Supuwood Y. Tarpeh said he is thrilled by the innovation of BnB.
The Deputy Director of Regulation and Supervision department Supuwood Y. Tarpeh noted that the regulatory and supervisory of the Bank of Sierra Leone are stronger than the central Bank of Liberia.
He said BnB is the West Africa king because it is owned by Africans. He said it is their duty that their consumers are protected while assuring that BnB is in full operation in Liberia as they are in the country to assess and understand the product launched.
