The Old Bo Boys Association (OBBA) Western Area Branch on Saturday March 15, 2025 stocked two of the four fish ponds with 2000 fries, marking the commencement of the nutrition for the boys component of the grand plan of the Association.
Describing the event as epochal, the Master of Ceremony 4742 Turay Abraham said the gathering was not just for a meeting of Bo School boys but one with a special significance for the pupils, staff and the general Bo populace.
In his succinct statement, the OBBA Western Area Branch Chairman 5017 James Ambrose narrated the history of the Fish Pond Project which he said was directly aligned to the dreams and aspirations of His Excellency Rtd Brigadier Julius Maada Bio’s Feed Salone drive. Chairman James elaborated on the three aspects of the Fish Pond Project and the impact of each on the School and the community in general. The first was the fish production for which expert opinions were sought and carefully followed. The second was water source for the ponds that the school can benefit from, and the third was energy for which they provided solar which also supplies the school. Chairman James drew the link between each component and how the school would gain from it.
The fish production and harvest will serve as practicals for the staff and pupils in aqua culture, whilst the water component which the branch has built to augment the previous water system provided by the OBBA USA branch, will serve the dormitories. The solar energy is needed to bolster energy supply for the pumping of water into the tanks for the ponds but can also provide light for the school.
Chairman James wrapped up his speech by dilating on the storage the branch has created for the project where the ancillary materials needed for the effective and sustainable implementation of the project, will be stored and secured.
The National Chairman of OBBA 2439 Dabo Hadji commended the leadership of the Western Area Branch for what he termed as visionary leadership. He revealed that when 5017 James Ambrose was elected by a unanimous decision to serve as OBBA Western Area Branch Chairman, he approached him and told him of his plans to create a fish pond for the school on campus. He admitted that he was initially skeptical about the project, but was convinced by Chairman James that it was achievable as expert opinions would be sought and technical details will be followed to avoid any mishap. He said the stocking of the juvenile fish was testament of weeks of careful planning and hard work. He reiterated the fish pond project’s support to President Bio’s Feed Salone program which is one of the Big Five Agenda programs in his second term.
President Dabo admonished the school and the Bo community to embrace the project and own it since it is beneficial to them.
The OBBA National President dwelled on discipline which he said was in tandem with the school’s motto of Manners Maketh Man.
The climax of the program was the unleashing of the 2000 juvenile fish into the two ponds by various people. 8514 Patrick Momodu moved the vote of thanks.
