For involving into gay activities, Police Declares Ibrahim Mansaray wanted
Lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, famous lawyer defending former President Koroma on all his cases, including the Commission of Inquiry and the recent treason charges, has said that “it is unfortunate for this nation to drag a Former President that was democratically elected for two terms, on charges of such nature,”.
According to Lawyer Kamara the charges against the former president sets a dangerous precedent and that they [defenders] would fiercely challenge to prove Koroma’s innocence.
He said, “[There] has been No Evidence After 40 Hours of Interrogating Former President Koroma.”
Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara strongly refuted the charges against his client and questioned the legality of the investigation process.
The former President was arraigned on Wednesday on a-four-count indictment including for treason and on two counts for harbouring fugitives.
The charges stem from alleged involvement in an attempt to overthrow Sierra Leone’s government on November 26, 2023.
Kamara revealed that despite 40 hours of interrogation, no concrete evidence linking Koroma to the alleged offenses was presented about him.
He emphasized the lack of specific accusations beyond basic inquiries about individuals and objects, describing the entire process as “ridiculous.”
The lawyer’s comments raise concerns about the fairness and transparency of the legal proceedings against the former president.
The lack of concrete evidence presented, as claimed by Kamara, casts doubt on the validity of the charges and fuels speculation about a potential political motive(s) behind the investigation.
However, the Deputy Minister of Information, Keketoma Sandi, has reacted on a different note stating that, the matter before the court is presented at the bar and not on social media.
Is he a social media lawyer? he asked. Let him go to court to defend his client and stop making noise on media.
He spoke about the bad precedent being set and he [ JFK lawyer] made me laugh.
The Deputy Minister said in a statement, yes, it is a bad precedent for a former president (Ernest Bai Koroma) to be involved in a treason attempt.
He buttressed that, it is a bad precedent to sack the democratically elected former VP. Samuel Sam Sumana with impunity, back then.
He went further that, it was a bad precedent to unlawfully sack the elected mayor of Koidu City and Freetown under the watch of JFK.
Sandi pointed out that, it was a bad precedent too for JFK to tell the ECOWAS court that they did not have jurisdiction and competence over Sierra Leone with impunity among many other precedents he’d cited in his reactions.
