As community football is the foundation for young talents in the country, the Sierra Leone Polio Football Club at Cole Town in Waterloo, Western Area Rural District, over the weekend has humiliated Team Sullay Kamara aka Ajazy in a mouth washing friendly encounter match day five in their capacity building products within the municipality of Waterloo.
Mr. Sullay Ajazy Kamara is the Headman elect for Cole Town Village following his landslide victory at the just concluded elections conducted by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) for village headmen on 28th October 2023 saw it as a peace tournament among the community stakeholders and youth.
Though, Mr. Ajazy was able to polled 1,064 votes, defeating his rival, Emmanuel Ganda, who secured 842 votes, by 222 votes but, peace tournament was landmark successful in order to keep the calmness in the society.
According to Team HM Sullay, who were the organizers of the victory competition, the event was just part of the moves by the community to consolidate peace among indigenes of the village.
A representative of Team HM Sullay who happens to be the Ward Chairman for the opposition All Peoples’ Congress (APC) party, Habib Fatorma, said HM Sullay has been doing extremely well in the area of bringing everybody on board, especially his close rival, Pastor Emmanuel Ganda and his team.
Habib was part and parcel of Team HM Sullay alongside Mr. Musa and Swarray, who doubles as the Secretary-General for the village.
Before the friendly tournament, the HM elect had always encouraged his people to refrain from unnecessary arguments but to concentrate on the way forward for the village.
HM Sullay, therefore, admonished the youths to stay away from violent activities, adding that his victory is for everyone because he is a dedicated servant who is determined to transform the village in terms of actualizing tangible projects.
Meanwhile, both the HM elect and his people from both political parties were together in the victory football tournament in a bid to preach unabated peace and unity in the village.
The interesting aspect of the victory football match was the passionate plea and submission by HM Sullay that he would patiently look into the social welfare status of persons with disabilities at his village level.
“I will be happy to see the Polio Football Club players progress into the top European Amputee Super League and also for the national team, representing the green, white, and blue in the not-too-distant future.
“My team drew goalless in the first leg during my campaign and today we lost 3-1 but I was able to score a superb goal,” HM Sullay affirmed.
Interestingly enough, the technical coach, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder for the side of the Sierra Leone Polio Football Club, Lamin Vidal Koroma aka Coach Vidal, was the goalkeeper during the first leg. He was, however, on the touchline during the return game with more amputee players than in the first leg.
Coach Vidal revealed that Polio FC is the first disable football club to win all major trophies in Sierra Leone, including the CAMA Cup, without losing a single game.
Coach Vidal said the victory match was another milestone towards consolidating peace within the Cole Town Village as eligible voters have elected HM Sullay for the next four years.
“This victory game is organized by Team HM Sullay in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Polio Football Club to reconcile and bring on board everyone in a bid to ensure transparency and accountability at the village level. I have been approved by the village as the Disable Representative, especially with regards to sports discipline and entertainment”, Coach Vidal noted.
However, the Cole Town Village Secretary, Mr Swaray, updated the gathering on the upcoming developmental activities, saying that the objective of the victory football match was to sensitize people on the need to tolerate each other as one people, one nation, one village.
In conclusion, the entire exercise was timely and HM. Sullay used the opportunity to recognize key stakeholders and others during his campaign period but urged residents to embrace peace and unity whilst he also extended thanks and appreciation to all and sundry for electing him as their legitimate village headman.
