Although the police and other security apparatus are doing their best to reduce the crime rate in the Kenema district, thieves are also using other mechanisms to bypass the police.
Recently around Rural Training Institute (RTI), back of ISU quarters, thieves armed with weapons attacked several homes resulting to a rape of a woman in her house close to the resident of the Mayor of Kenema City Council, Thomas Mbaryoh.
According to one eyewitness whose house was attacked by the robbers, Mrs. Mattia Sannoh said at around 2:00 am, in the morning, the thieves broke and entered the veranda room and put the boys that were sleeping in the room under gun point and stole properties worth millions.
The thieves tried to break and enter the main house but the doors of the main building were made of strong metals and so could not enter.
That particular night the robbers also ransacked others homes in the same community but they’re met with stiff resistance from the youth in the community.
Similar attacks by robbers have taken place in places like Samai Town, Abdulai Street and other areas in the outskirts of the city.
