The Public Account Committee (PAC) in Parliament headed by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, is making frantic efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in state monies collected in the country.
The Deputy Speaker is now in the provinces to reclaim missing funds in local councils.
He however expressed determination by his committee to clean up the “Grey areas” pinpointed in the past audit report findings.
“I want by the end of our PAC work hundreds of billions Leone would have been collected from defaulting sectors, ” Deputy Speaker said.
He said in his move to collect missing government monies, and in doing so he has no relative that could compromise standards.
“Family relative talk stops at home. When at work people should work. Don’t put relationship at work place or else you bound to fail. I will never compromise when collecting President Bio’s monies, “Hon Tawa assured.
He further said that by the time PAC is done with its work by next year auditing by Audit Service Sierra Leone will not be like the previous years.
The Deputy leader of opposition in Parliament, Hon Daniel Koroma has once stated in one of the debates that, “party loyalists are hunting all of us as Sierra Leoneans and our political parties are holding us back.”
According to Hon Koroma, most of their colleagues MPs who are not making it to the second term in Parliament are unable to do so because for their individual stance towards national issues or because they are refusing to work in consonant with their political parties in approving wrong policies or programs.
The Deputy leader said, if Parliament is serious enough to fight corruption and promote accountability in the country they will succeed in less than six months.
“The only thing that Parliament cannot do is to change man to a woman. If Parliament is robust we don’t need many agencies in the country, ” he stated.
The MP said the problem of Sierra Leone can only solve by Parliament, adding that if Parliament is serious enough to address corruption and promote accountability, the country will develop and be ” safe from looters.”
He also stated that there is no need for more institutions while the country have Parliament, ACC, ASSL, NPPA and among many others that have been created by an Act of Parliament and are all geared towards promoting accountability in MDAs.
