On Tuesday, 17 September 2024,The Honourable Acting Chief Justice sentenced a Security guard to five yeras Imprisionment, after the accused plead guilt to a single count of House Breaking and Larceny, and for stealing Fifty Eight Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty One Leones (Le 58, 521).
In furtherance of the matter, when the charge sheet was read to the accused person, Yusif Tholley, he accepted that he committed the offence, which was alleged to him.
Since he pleaded guilty to the crime he was accused of,the chief justice requested him to testify his reason (s) for stealing that huge sum of money. In his response, he pleaded for mercy that he took the money for some reasons. “I am the bread winner of my family, my mum is blind and my dad is dead .” He said.
He further explained that he also caters for his younger siblings who are dependent on him only , when he left the Province Kono to attend school so he can his home, he decided to join the J.T Security Company. By working there he had access to the building he was manding where he stole Fifty Thousand Leones (55), in the finace office safe, and had planned to travel to France, as a friend had already introduced to him a programme. He added that he used the money to pay Ten Thousand Leones (Le 10,000), for agent fee, and made part payment of Thirty Five Thousand Leones, (Le35,000).
Cecilia Tucker defending the accused, pleaded for mercy on his behalf since he made confession from the Police Station, he is a bread winner and a first time offender, so let there be justice with mercy, she added.
The Chief Justice passed verdict and sentenced Yusif Tholley to five years imprisonment.
